Do you have questions about your preschool child’s development?

Children between the ages of 3 and 4 develop communication skills, pre-academic abilities, social/emotional and motor skills at different rates. Many parents have questions about their child’s development. It is hard to know when your child is developing typically and when his or her development warrants extra help.

Child Development Day is a screening by early education professionals that provides parents with immediate feedback about their child’s development. This screening helps to determine if further assessment is needed for your child.

What is Child Development Days? Child Development Days is part of the District’s Child Find process for preschool-aged children. Child Development Days is an event that takes place throughout the year. If you have concerns for you preschooler, please contact the Pupil Services office to set up a screening appointment at 262-673-8042. Child Development Days is an opportunity for parents to talk with a certified early childhood teacher and/or speech pathologist to discuss a child’s development in the areas of social/emotional, speech and language or academic readiness. The process could possibly identify children who may need follow up assessment.

Who is eligible to participate in Child Development Days? Child Development Days are open to all three- and four-year old children who reside in Hartford that are not enrolled in our District 4K program.

Please contact the Pupil Services office for additional information at (262) 673-8042.

Child Find Activity Notice

According to Federal Law the School District of Hartford Joint No. 1 is required to inform you of your rights if you suspect your child of having a disability, which is impacting his/her academic progress. Hartford Joint No. 1 is also required to identify Child Find Activities and the Confidentiality of Personally Identifiable Information.

"All children with disabilities, residing in the State, including children with disabilities, attending private schools, regardless of the severity of their disability, and who are in need of special education and related services, are identified, located, and evaluated…"

If you suspect your child may have a disability, please contact the School District of Hartford Joint No. 1 for further information.

On December 3, 2004, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act was signed into law. As of July 1, 2005, it no longer matters where the child resides, but rather where he/she attends school. The new provisions require Hartford Joint No. 1 to locate and evaluate any child attending a private school within the jurisdiction of the School District of Hartford Joint No. 1. If the child qualifies for services, Hartford Joint No. 1 could offer a "service plan" however; the resident district would be responsible for offering FAPE if the child were enrolled in the public school.

The entire Notice of Child Find Activity: Confidentiality of Personally Identifiable Information is available in either English or Spanish

This satisfies part of the Child Find Activities according to Federal Law 34 CFR part 300.125
